Summer Bridge

The Summer Bridge program grants unique opportunities to aspiring engineering majors. Support and encouragement is provided over a fun week of living on campus whilst establishing connections and strengthening skills for success.

In the summer enrichment program, incoming freshmen work to improve their math skills in order to improve their math course placement. In addition, students learn and do engineering activities to give them a better idea as to what engineering and computer science is all about.

The program runs from June 20 to July 17.

If you participate, you will:

  • Live in Sandburg Residence Hall with other engineering & computer science students
  • Receive a weekly meal stipend
  • Review pre-calculus (algebra and trigonometry) through both instructor-led and self-paced activities
  • Solve engineering problems and conduct experiments
  • Explore exciting fields such as biomechanics, alternative energy, medical imaging, and environmental protection
  • Meet other students, faculty, and industry partners through social events and field trips
  • Retake the math placement test at the end of the program
  • Earn a $1000 scholarship applicable to Fall tuition upon attaining calculus placement

How to Join

At this time, there is no separate application process; just submit your admission application to UWM. Depending upon your admissions status, you may be required to participate in the summer enrichment program as outlined in your letter of admission, or you will be invited in the Spring after your math placement has been determined. Nevertheless, if you think this program is for you, please contact us early at or 414-229-4667.

Tip for Freshman

All new freshmen will take the UW System Placement Tests. We strongly recommend that you prepare for these tests in advance — especially for math — visit here.
