Freedom of Expression is a companion controller system for the Trans/Act Show Control System that uses proximity sensors and motion capture devices to bring the possibility of true non-linear narrative performance to storytelling artists. Movement of the performer, location of the performer, keypads and other mechanisms can be used to “call-up” various synchronized states generated by technology to support the flow of the chosen narrative. Audience members may also control aspects of these states by data polling or other means.

The study strives to test the system by creating a non-linear narrative framework to engage performers and audience in a traditional theatrical setting.
