Gem Lake Shear Zone

Eric Horsman took Darlene and Dyanna on a tour of the Gem Lake shear zone in California. The area is a preserved pendant of deformed rock within the Sierra Nevada batholith.

Darlene and Eric pause to enjoy the view during the hike into the area.

After a hike... Finally, what we are here for- deformed volcaniclastic rocks!

More deformed volcaniclastic rocks!

We love it when lineations are obvious (see the Sharpie marker for direction)!

Quartz-filled tension gash.

Not a bad campsite!
