Syntax, semantics, historical linguistics
The topics of my research roughly form a radial category centered on comparison constructions. I have investigated the syntax of gradable adjectives; the determination of standards for positives; comparative quantifiers; scope, thematics, and adjective classes in the tough construction; and the nature of subjectivity in natural language. In the realm of historical syntax, I have written about the origin of English passive get.
