Your Local Library

Most of your local libraries, whether public or academic, will have all sorts of resources that you should explore.
For example, the Milwaukee Public Library has a page that lists all of the databases that they subscribe to that MPL cardholders can access from home. They include Grove Music Online (full-text access the New Grove Dictionary of Music !), ERIC (the government funded educational research database), Biography & Genealogy Master Index.
They often have lists of web sources like this one as well

There is also the library catalog to locate materials. People are often surprised by how much a local public library has. I've provided you with a searching guide to the UWM Libraries' catalog, PantherCat. Most of the methods described in it apply to searching all online catalogs, especially at all of the UW schools and all of the academic libraries in Illinois who all use the same catalog program.
