In September 1998, I went on a great backpacking trip to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on Lake Superior.

Here, then, a brief account:

All packed up and awaiting the arrival of the shuttle bus to take me to the trail head. It turned out to be about a 2 hour, and very bumpy, drive to the trail. Note that I have my rain wear accessible. It rained all afternoon, but I was walking through forest and really didn't get too wet.

I was a little nervous about the trip, mostly I wanted to get started. That two hour bus ride made me wonder about hiking 43 miles with 45 pounds on my back.
